to Pucallpa Peru and living expenses with a host family in San Francisco
de Yarinacocha from June-September 2006. Evaluation of sustainable waste
management systems in the Peruvian Amazon jungle for waste reuse,
composting, and recycling. Soil quality tests with a USDA test kit
provided by REAP facilitated evaluation of the effectiveness of composting
methods and soil building using Ecology Action’s Biointensive gardening
method. Conducted biointensive garden plot workshops in two Shipibo
communities in collaboration with the Adventist Development & Relief
Agency. |

Funded Activities: Translation of a USDA ‘Farmers Soil Health Tests’ manual into French (“Methods d’Evaluation de la Sante du Sol disponibles aux Fermiers”) by Nanga Kaye for use by farmers at workshops conducted by Maggie Lloyd at three locations in Guinea West Africa in March 2006. Three soil electrical conductivity meters were provided as the primary tool for quick compost and soil quality evaluations in Africa. Maggie Lloyd conducted three training workshops for Guinea farmers in March, 2006. |

Funded Activities: Travel expenses from Washington, DC to Chad, Africa to conduct training and technical assistance to farmers at the 30 acre Oasis of Grace training center to reduce hunger and poverty in rural communities. Provided workshop tools, training aids, and seeds, etc. for rapid in-field soil testing; interpretation of basic soil tests, and garden bed preparation using the double-digging method to increase plant growth and crop yield with 70 to 90% less fossil fuel energy and water while utilizing locally available resources. |
